Middle class families are struggling to send their sons and daughters to school. For many Americans, a college education is essential to future success.
Since joining the U.S. House of Representatives in November of 2006, I have strongly supported Speaker Nancy Pelosi. I have the utmost respect for her, and I believe the Democrats were able to accomplish a great deal under her leadership.
Rather than address the priorities of the middle class, the Ryan budget is an attack on American seniors, students, workers, and families – all for the sake of protecting loopholes for the wealthy and corporations that ship jobs overseas.
Besides the devastating impact that the Ryan budget has directly on individuals, it does nothing to support job creation or our global competitiveness. Investments in both are drastically affected through cuts in funding for transportation and infrastructure projects, as well as funding for research and development.
We must continue to fight for funding for health technologies so that they can continue to do what they do best – save lives – but also because they confer a real benefit to America’s economy.
Instead of unfairly demonizing teachers, we should be working with them to find solutions to the problems in our schools and make sure every child gets an outstanding public education.
