His father Shantilal Adani was a textile trader, and his mother was a homemaker. Adani grew up in Ahmedabad and completed his schooling from Seth C.N. Vidyalaya.
Adani began his career as a diamond sorter and later started his own diamond brokerage business. He ventured into the commodities trading business and established Adani Exports Limited in 1988.
