Swami Vivekananda Quotes

Introduction,

Swami Vivekananda, born Narendranath Datta, was an Indian philosopher, monk, and spiritual leader who played a key role in the introduction of Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He was born on January 12, 1863, in Kolkata, India, and passed away on July 4, 1902, in Belur Math, West Bengal, India.

Vivekananda was born into an affluent family, and his father was a lawyer and social reformer. From an early age, he showed an interest in spirituality and philosophy. Vivekananda became a disciple of the famous Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and spent several years studying under him. After Ramakrishna’s death, Vivekananda became a wandering monk, traveling throughout India and gaining a reputation as a spiritual leader.

In 1893, Vivekananda traveled to Chicago to attend the Parliament of World Religions, where he delivered a speech on Hinduism and impressed the audience with his knowledge and charisma. This marked the beginning of his international reputation as a spiritual leader and thinker. Vivekananda went on to found the Ramakrishna Mission, an organization dedicated to social service and spiritual enlightenment and wrote several books on spirituality, philosophy, and religion.

Vivekananda’s teachings emphasize the unity of all religions and the importance of spiritual practice for personal growth and social change. He is remembered as one of the most influential figures in modern Indian history and a major force in the spread of Eastern spirituality to the West.

In a conflict between the heart and the brain, follow your heart.

Do not wait for anybody or anything. Do whatever you can, and build your hope on none.

You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.

Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.

Do one thing at a time, and while doing it put your whole soul into it to the exclusion of all else.

We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else has the blame, none has the praise.

If I love myself despite my infinite faults, how can I hate anyone at the glimpse of a few faults?

Learn everything that is good from others but bring it in, and in your own way absorb it; do not become others.

It is our own mental attitude that makes the world what it is for us. Our thought make things beautiful, our thoughts make things ugly. The whole world is in our own minds. Learn to see things in the proper light.

Neither seek nor avoid, take what comes.

So long as there is desire or want, it is a sure sign that there is imperfection. A perfect, free being cannot have any desire.

Purity, patience, and perseverance are the three essentials to success and above all, love.

When an idea exclusively occupies the mind, it is transformed into an actual physical or mental state.

The more we come out and do good to others, the more our hearts will be purified, and God will be in them.

Our duty is to encourage every one in his struggle to live up to his own highest idea and strive at the same time to make the ideal as near as possible to the Truth.

Swami Vivekananda Quotes

We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.

We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be, we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in the future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know how to act.

All power is within you; you can do anything and everything. Believe in that, do not believe that you are weak; do not believe that you are half-crazy lunatics, as most of us do nowadays. You can do anything and everything, without even the guidance of anyone. Stand up and express the divinity within you.

Never think there is anything impossible for the soul. It is the greatest heresy to think so. If there is sin, this is the only sin; to say that you are weak, or others are weak.

Believe in yourself and the world will be at your feet.
